Botox® and Hyperhidrosis Treatment

Northern Virginia Clinical Aesthetic & Injectable Treatment

Botox Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into facial muscles and used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabella), around the eyes (crow's feet), and on the forehead and nose. It is a simple, temporary, non-surgical treatment that works by blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles.

Botox is administered through small injections into the face using minimally invasive needles. One of the only injectable treatments of its type approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Botox produces an immediate and temporary smoothing of moderate to severe frown lines. Botox is also widely used for treatments other than cosmetic purposes, including the treatment of facial spasms, eyelid blepharospasms and tension migraines. Results typically last for up to four months.

Are you embarrassed to shake hands or raise your arms? Is your shirt wet before you leave the house? If so, Botox may be your answer. Excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) is a condition that most often affects the palms of the hands, soles of the feet, and underarms. Botox has been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosisthat is localized to a region of the body. It works by blocking the nerves that trigger sweat glands.

Botox is administered in a simple, non-surgical treatment just under the skin using tiny needles. It only takes about 15 minutes. The effects can be seen as quickly as 48 hours after treatment, but maximum effects may not be apparent for up to 2 weeks. Botox is not a cure for hyperhidrosis. Symptoms will gradually return after several months, prompting the patient to revisit their provider for their next treatment.
